Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing

MST Financial Services Pty Limited (ABN 54 617 475 180, AFSL 500557) (“MST”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is committed to preventing its products and services from being used for money laundering, terrorism financing or other financial crime.

MST maintains a risk-based Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) framework designed to meet its obligations under applicable Australian AML/CTF laws. This includes customer identification and verification, customer risk assessment, ongoing customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, record-keeping and regulatory reporting.

What are Australia’s AML/CTF laws?

Australia’s AML/CTF regime is principally governed by the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth) and the associated AML/CTF Rules.

These laws require businesses providing certain regulated services to identify and assess their money laundering and terrorism financing risks, conduct due diligence on their customers and report certain matters to the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC).

What is money laundering?

Money laundering is the process of concealing or disguising the proceeds of crime so that they appear to have come from a legitimate source.

What is terrorism financing?

Terrorism financing involves providing, collecting or using funds or other assets to support terrorist acts, individuals or organisations. Funds used for terrorism financing may come from either legitimate or unlawful sources.

What information may MST request?

To help us meet our AML/CTF obligations, we may ask you to provide information or documents confirming your identity, ownership structure or the purpose of your relationship with MST. What we need will depend on your circumstances and the services being provided. We may also verify your information using third-party identity verification and screening services. If you do not provide the information we request, we may not be able to provide you with a product or service.

From time to time, we may also contact you to check that your information remains current. Our team will guide you through the process and let you know if anything further is required.

What products and services do these obligations apply to?

AML/CTF requirements apply when MST provides a product or service that is regulated as a “designated service” under Australian AML/CTF laws. This includes but is not limited to:

  • ASX Equity Sales & Trading
  • Corporate Advisory
